Cool Website with great party planning tips and more

A friend of mine from High School is an event planner in Florida.  She is very successful and has even done a few parties for celebrities.  She also has a very popular blog with great tips.  Starting September 23 she will be giving daily tips on Holiday decorating, parties, and planning.  I am crazy about this time of year.  I LOVE to decorate for the Holidays and I usually start early – ok, my Halloween stuff is already up, if that tells you anything.  I want to share her website with you so you too can get great tips.   Her company is called Mix Mingle Glow.  I check the blog almost daily because she truly has some great ideas and information.

Speaking of great ideas – one of my favorites from her site is copied below.  I think this is a great gift idea.  If your husband has a game room or bar in the house, or for a playroom.  There are lots of great things you could do with this.

Everyone Wants to be a Rockstar

Let’s face it, we all want to be famous (even for just 15 minutes) and Etsy artist Phunklab is the genius taking full advantage of that secret desire.  Send him a photo and he will, for $40 create an amazing, unique work of art on stretched canvas.  You can ask for a specific background or inspiration (newspaper, comic, western) or even a movie poster likeness (I desperately need one inspired by Sex and the City!), OR you can trust the creative genius that is Phunklab and let him create the perfect piece for you.

This is from a customer who lives in Florida who received the Grin and Giggle shirt as a gift.  I love hearing some positive feedback.
The shirt is wonderfully soft and light – great for hot Florida summers!

Can a Gator and a Bulldog be friends?

by Cayce on September 2nd, 2008 | No Comments »

Well, yes they can!  We are too old to really be saying that we don’t like someone simply because of the college they went to and subsequently the football team they cheer for.  And, as I move through life I am surprised to find how some people are so set in their ways.  They argue vehemently about poltics, religion, raising children and economics, to name a few.  We are not old enough to be so stubborn.  Shouldn’t we teach our children about their right to decide, to make intelligent decisions? That we learn about life more each day, and that it is okay to change your mind?

I don’t know, I don’t claim to be some super smart well informed woman.  However, I do hear lots of conversations about all of the things I mentioned above and more.  There are times I want to scream at people “Do you HEAR yourself?”  People get so fired up and think that they already know everything and the way they believe is the ONLY way.   I try my best to hear every side of every story.  I mean, I can only be better by understanding more, right?

Anyway, this photo is of two very intelligent, funny, and successful men who LOVE their alma maters with a passion that I will never understand.  But here they are approaching 40 – so young, and enjoying each other’s company, and the things that they do have in common.

It is my husband and his friend, our neighbor, my friends husband.  I guess my friend and husband.  Bottom line, we do like each other.  Despite our differences and because of our beliefs.  I do not believe that being a “Seminole” or a “Republican” is part of my title.  I think we all have beliefs and morals, and we have a right to live by those.  But, as Americans, I think we should choose to accept each other, you might learn something!

Labor Day – a FUN end to summer

by Cayce on September 1st, 2008 | No Comments »

I have so many things I should write about, Gustav, politics, the fact that little Caylee is still missing, the list goes on.  I probably will write about it all at some point.

Tonight, I want to share some happy pictures from my family’s Labor Day weekend at Lake Oconee.  We had a lot of fun with friends and neighbors.  The kids played ALL day on Sunday, no down time.  And I actually enjoyed it because I knew that pool time and summer activities are coming to an end.

What’s next?  My most favorite time of year!  FALL!  Falling leaves, cooler weather, pumpkins, Halloween, and just a change.  A change of seasons.  I grew up in Florida and in Florida you don’t really feel the change of season.  In Georgia, we do and I just love it.

But tonight, I am thinking about the end of summer and what a good one it was.

Stand Up 2 Cancer

by Cayce on August 28th, 2008 | No Comments »

My son Ford has a good buddy from school whose name is Jack.  Jack’s mom was diagnosed with breast cancer last spring.  Jack and Ford started Kindergarten today.  Jack is the oldest of 3.  He is a very polite, handsome little boy who we enjoy having around.  His mom is amazingly positive, and absolutely beautiful.  She keeps an online journal of what she is going through and I don’t know how she does it.

She has already gone through chemotherapy and recently had a double masectomy.  She will start radiation any day now – is unfortunately dealing with insurance issues.  I was in the car today and the local radio station played a song called “Just Stand Up”.  It is a collaboration of several female artists and all of the proceeds go to cancer research.  GREAT song!  I came home to immediately try and download it from itunes to discover it will not be released until tomorrow.

I spend a lot of time on the computer lately, and sometimes it feels like wasted time.  I know that tomorrow when I download this song, that I am not wasting time and I look forward to doing it.  I hope you will too.

As you know, I am not great at this linking stuff, so I am just going to link to my local radio station – I think it is easiest that way – PLEASE take the time to listen and download this song.
