Funny Story about a boy and a dog

by Cayce on August 22nd, 2008 | No Comments »

PeanutMy youngest son Cole (he will be 2 in November) is obsessed with dogs.  I think it was his first word (besides no, of course).  He loves dogs and to tell you what they say.  “A dog, Woof….”.  We have what we call an “American brown dog”.  We got her at the Humane Society in August on 2001.  She was a little tiny lost puppy that they had named Peanut.  She is now 70 pounds and full of love.  She has an on and off limp in her front right leg.  Our vet recommended we take her to a specialist. I had to drag both boys to Georgia Veterinary Specialists and I was surprised to walk into what felt to me, like a hospital for people.

We were there for an hour in a little exam room waiting.  Cole kept opening the door so that he could see all the dogs in the lobby.  He was very excited.  He opened the door to the room next to us and barged right in on two doctors and a woman in a very quiet meeting.  I apologized, thinking he had interrupted an office meeting of some sort.  I then read the sign on the door which said “This room is reserved for us to talk to our patients owners about difficult situations.  Please respect our privacy and need for quiet”.  Whoops!  A toddler obsessed with dogs with no entertainment for an hour next door to that particular room – not a good mix.

The office manager then gave the boys some crayons and coloring books.  Ford (my 5 year old) sat quietly and colored.  The doctor came in with Peanut to explain her situation to us (everything is fine by the way, she has some sort of tendonitis) while Cole colored the windows and walls.  Not a fun trip to the vet for me.

It was however, somewhat comical, and we were relieved to know Peanut is going to be fine.  Our american brown dog has brought us lots of joy, particularly since Cole has been born, he just loves her.

Mommy Blogging

by Cayce on August 21st, 2008 | No Comments »

As anyone knows that actually reads my posts, this is very new and overwhelming for me.  I am following the advice of “experts” in the field however, and doing lots of research.  Research means that I spend a lot of time on the computer looking at other blogs.  It seems that my product is very appealing to moms – which is great!

I had no idea the extent of sites out there that moms go to daily.  Frankly, I don’t know how people have the time.  I will be honest, I can see how it can be addictive, and you may learn a useful tip here and there, but at the same time, there is also a lot of JUNK out there that I don’t even want to read.

One of the sites I came across is my favorite Mom Blog and I want to share it with you. It is called

A Moms Life.  I think God puts certain things in our lives for a reason.  The mom who started this blog also has MS and apparently also has a very bright 5 year old son!  We have been communicating via email and she even gave Chickatees a shout out on her blog.  She is also going to be doing her first give away on her site, giving away a Chickatees item.  You should check it out.

My first Home show

by Cayce on August 18th, 2008 | No Comments »

I was asked to do a “Christmas Shopping in August” Home show.  I was so honored to be included.  I was of course hoping for big sales, but mostly excited to see the response from strangers to my products.  It was so much fun.  I made friends, did some shopping myself, and did sell some shirts.

I recommend this type of home show for anyone.  If you have friends who make jewelry, paint, sell clothes, gifts, etc.  Find out if they can do this type of thing.  There were no set rules and no pressure.  It was a nice way to get together casually, get to know people or to catch up with old friends.  We did it on a morning when some of the kids were in school.  No major catering needs, just serve some coffee and juice, some sweets, and have your vendors come the day before to set up.  Piece of cake.

And, really, lots of people got some early Christmas shopping done.  I know that I sure like to cross things off on my list!

Grace and Giving

Every day that goes by, I am more amazed and interested in the relationship between boys and their fathers.  I am the oldest of 3 girls, and my father had 3 sisters and a dad who died when he was 13.   My point is, my dad is very “manly”, into sports, gambling, fishing, you name it.  But somehow, he raised three daughters, and I never knew until now that he was missing out on something.

I LOVE my boys (you might think, you don’t have to say it, we know) but I mean, really, I wouldn’t want it any other way.  But as my 5 year old grows up, each day I realize the he is a mystery to me.  More and more every day.  So his  baby brother I cradle, I cling to, I don’t care when he wants to wear my bracelet or hold my purse.  Soon, he too, will want to be JUST like his Daddy.  Which is a whole different post – I mean, who am I kidding?  A few years from now I have it made!

The point of this post is to tell you about my sweet Ford (the 5 year old).  We feel like our kids are spoiled most of the time, and that we just give too much.  But isn’t this the way now??  Tonight we had some sort of plumbing issue (a drain pipe burst or something?) after baths.  Daddy isn’t home but when we came downstairs we saw water everywhere.  To top it off, while we were on vacation last week our dishwasher decided to completely break down (it is a top of the line Bosch, only 2 years old) so I have water sitting in it unable to drain and a BUNCH of dishes to handwash.  the repair people will be here Thursday.  Figures.  Anyway, I had to put Cole (the baby, as long as I can call him that) to bed so I asked Ford if he wanted to play WII or watch TV and he told me he would rather help me with the dishes.

Astonished is what I felt.  I told him not to worry, I would get it but he said, “no mommy, I want to help”  He dried all of the dishes I had handwashed and helped put them away.  He also put buckets and towels down on the kitchen floor where the ceiling was leaking.  I really did nothing to prompt this.   I was bewildered, and touched.  Then I remembered.  He is his own person, but I am teaching him good.  He does get his thoughtfulness from me, his helpfulness, and wanting to just do the right thing.  From me, his dad, school, church, grandparents, friends and everyone around him.  It isn’t me, it is Ford, good all the way through.  But I had something to do with it and it made me feel proud.  It made me understand why my dad used to look at me out of the blue and say “pumpkin, I am so proud of you”  In my head I asked Why?  But now I know, because I am a part of him – he helped to make me.  And we may feel like we aren’t doing our best, or we could be different, but when your children are in the picture, and they shine – you do have something to do with it, and YOU as the parent should feel proud.

NOW – enough mushiness, buy a shirt, will you?

Life is……

Vacation is relaxing, hot, beautiful, funny, interesting, fun, sweet….many many things that are all making me happy.  I am at the beach with my husband and boys, and my parents – who met us halfway to help out and enjoy their grandsons, who unfortunately they don’t get to see often enough.

Today the 3 oldest boys played golf and my mom and I went shopping with the baby.  While we were out looking in the windows of several adorable boutiques I stumbled across a shop with a line of t-shirts adorning the windows which were just awful.  A play on the “Life is Good” shirts but they were “Life is Crap”…..UGH!  I mean, who is wearing this stuff?  They have a website and I am sure people are buying, but why?  It isn’t even funny!

Vacation is stressful, too.  Especially in 100 degree weather with 2 boys – one who still needs a nap and the other who needs constant entertainment.  But I am sharing these  pictures with my readers to show two small moments I captured that in my opinion convey that life is so much more than good, it is sweet, and curious, and a great experience that I am enjoying.  Crap?  Not even a word I use, especially to describe life.

I was in another shop where I happened to meet the owner.  I was wearing my Grace and Giving Shirt and she noticed and loved it.  I told her all about Chickatees, and she wants to carry the shirts.  Not sure if we will make that happen or not, but she said if nothing else she wants to give them to all of her employees for Christmas gifts – she wants to spread the positive messages, which just made me feel good inside.

Life is……Tell me your thoughts…. I want to hear them.

Adorable gift for little girls

by Cayce on August 1st, 2008 | No Comments »

Too cute!

As much as a wanted a little girl, it is probably a good thing I had boys, I would be in big trouble financially.  I joke that shopping is a hobby of mine, but that probably isn’t really the best thing.  Anyway, I have bought several of these adorable bows for daughters of my friends and they LOVE them.  The stay in place and are very unique and affordable.  Thought I would share with anyone who is looking for a cute gift.   She sells them on www.etsy.com  (a great site for artsy type stuff).   You can click on this link to get directly to her page..

Happy shopping!
